Archery at Disney World: A Unique Experience

When you think about Disney World activities the things that come to mind might be parades, meeting characters, taking the plunge on Splash Mountain or eating turkey legs.  But, chances are shooting archery is not something you think about doing when at Disney World.

If you are looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of the parks you might want to take a minute and check out the Archery Experience Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort.  Guests 7 years old and older can learn how to hold and fire a compound bow in a 90-minute archery program.  The class size is limited to 10 guests and everyone receives personalized advice from the Archery Guides to hone in their archery skills.

Debbie Edwards, an agent at Castle Dreams Travel, tells us the experience is a blast. Her family of three has shot archery at Walt Disney World twice.  “The first time my son was 11 years old and had never shot a compound bow before.  The Archery Guide was wonderful.  He was very good about not only teaching the safety aspect but also trying to work with him on the technique for shooting the bow.  My husband and I had both done archery before, but needed to brush up on technique.  The entire experience was so much fun that we have done it a couple more times since then and plan to do it again in September.”

But, you don’t have to shoot archery to enjoy the experience.  If you prefer to watch, Disney has set up a “safe zone” for those who have mastered the art of spectating.

Reservations are recommended and can be made 180 days in advance.  But, in case you forget to make the reservation, don’t let that stop you from checking in to see if the classes are full.  You can call from your hotel or simply stop by the Bike Barn at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort.  Remember to allow ample travel time to get to the Bike Barn at Fort Wilderness.
