Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park’s Festival of the Lion King is packing up and moving!

As expected, the HUGELY popular Festival of the Lion King show, in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park, is likely closing for a short period of time and moving its location to make room for the planned Avatar attractions. When Disney announced this project, back in September of 2011, they were said to be spending between $400 million and $500 million to complete the Avatar project. It is expected to be as immersive of an experience as the successful Cars Land is in Disneyland’s California Adventure Park. Construction is is ongoing with “Avatar Land” through  2014.

Where is the Festival of the Lion King being located to? It appears to be headed for an area in the park’s Africa section- a much better fit than Camp Minnie Mickey. 😉 Disney filed paperwork with the Florida water district management agency for this move and it looks like it will be just behind the Tusker House restaurant. No plans of a timetable have been announced as to when the show will close so the move can be made if will the show go on until the new location is ready.
