Finally we had made it to our hotel in Tuscany, Borgo di Cortfreda. They welcomed us with such a warm reception we all fell in love instantly with Tuscany!
As our welcome reception was winding down, our Adventure Guides, Mike and Marco handed out our room keys and we were free to head to our rooms at our leisure. Mike & I walked into our room and headed straight for our balcony doors…
The entire room was what I had dreamed it was be, a perfect Tuscan retreat.
Next it was time for our welcome dinner. We walked in to the reception room and everything we were to taste was on display, and ready for purchase along with a few other local favorites.
We started the evening in their wine cellar where they needed some help opening up the crates of wine we would be tasting.
We began by tasting an assortment of locally produced and award-winning wines and all sorts of goodies.
We started dinner with ravioli in a tomato and basil sauce. We also were served casarecce pasta with ricotta, pine nuts, in a dry tomato sauce.
Our main course was a pork in a wine sauce with spinach. We were also served beef escalope in a mushroom sauce and roasted potatoes.
Dessert was a chocolate cake (which was more like a mousse) with hazel nuts.
After dinner, a few of us stayed behind to finish the open bottles of wine (again, this is a very tough job) before heading to bed. Something to keep in mind, all 3 meals today were included- as was all of the wine we had at dinner. It was a very busy day- but an excellent introduction to this magical region of the world.
