The “Pirates of the Caribbean” craze is now hoping to launch a new movie based on Disneyland’s Matterhorn ride . This isn’t a new idea Disney has been developing- taking favorite rides and attractions in their theme parks and developing movies around them (think Haunted Mansion and Country Bears). There are also rumblings of a Space Mountain based movie starring Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock), Tom Hanks and Tim Allen joining forces for a “Jungle Cruise,” and even “The Enchanted Tiki Room” is being developed for the big screen. Plus a new Haunted Mansion movie, a new 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea movie, as well as a movie based on the entire Magic Kingdom Park.
The Matterhorn Bobsled ride is a rollercoaster which has been a staple in Disneyland since 1959. It is set in the Alpine mountains, with animatronic yetis and a water drop. The film project is now known as “The Hill,” and will include five young characters who climb the real Matterhorn “for mysterious reasons,” encountering Yetis along the way. The studio has set Jason Dean Hall to write the script, while Justin Springer (”Tron:
Legacy”) will produce.
