As the mother of a family of five who love to travel to Walt Disney World, I am often limited by our options in the moderate and value resorts.
The values are now adding new, heavily family suites to accomodate up to six guests- while the moderates are up coverting their rooms to Royal themed and Pirate themed… but still only sleep 4. This concerned me, because Port Orleans Riverside Resort has the option of a trundle bed- to sleep 5 of us in one room. This is the most cost effective way for a family of 5 to stay on Walt Disney World property (short of camping in Fort Wildreness) so I went on a quest to be sure this option was still an option to those of us who need to watch our budgets when traveling… I was very pleased with the results…
The Royal Rooms in Port Orleans French Quarter will only have Queen bed room types (2 Queen beds per room) and they will house parties of 4 only (as do the Pirate themed room in Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort). Due to space limitations in the room, we will no longer be able to place a rollaway bed in the room. Parties of five will need a 2nd room for the Royal Rooms as well as Building 80 & 85 (renovated) rooms in Port Orleans. Alligator Bayou rooms in Riverside will continue to house parties of five. Alligator Bayou rooms will undergo renovations starting this year in October. A section of Alligator Bayou will be completed by December 2012. The current trundle bed as you know it now will cease. Instead, a new 5th Sleeper bed option will be introduced and it will be much more appealing to families, allowing for small children, as well as teenagers to sleep comfortably!
